Thoughts of the day
Good morning, and happy Friday. A lighter Brain Food for today as we close the week: December 17th marks the anniversary of the first-ever powered airplane flight, by the Wright brothers.
Surprisingly, the flight did not generate much public excitement, and people soon forgot about it. People doubted the Wrights, even if they had invited them to witness some of their first flights in person. They faced many setbacks — accidents, lawsuits, disbelief — but they kept going.
“The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease for ever to be able to do it.”
― J. M. Barrie, Peter Pan
It is a very fine line, the one that separates success from failure, and it can feel tiresome to be working on something that doesn’t resonate with the world. The key ingredients are belief, patience, and creativity.
And when the circumstances are not right, perhaps you can create them. When they finally started making planes, the Wrights realised people did not know how to fly them, so they trained pilots.
Thank you for reading today’s Brain Food. Brain Food is a short daily newsletter that aims to make you think every day, without taking up too much of your time. If you know someone who would like it, why not forward it to them? Brain Food is, after all, alive thanks to you, its readers.
