Thoughts of the day
Artist and writer Craig Dramrauer created a little book of advice for his daughter, who had just turned eighteen. Called HOW TO BE (STELLA) IN THIS WORLD, there is only one tangible version of the book, but he shared the contents online, in case the rest of the world could benefit from it.
Some of the standouts were:
Make things
Be with people you admire
Practice the things you love
But the one we can really learn from is “You can find beauty in everything”.
Advice, like help, is to be passed on. Oscar Wilde wrote, “I always pass on good advice. It is the only thing to do with it. It is never of any use to oneself.” Someone can choose whether to accept it or not, but it is the act of sharing it, of not keeping it to oneself, that makes it meaningful. Like help, there needs to be not only a giver, but also a receiver. By sharing your advice, you never know who might benefit from it.
Start writing out the advice you would give to someone close to you, maybe someone younger, maybe even your own child, or your future self. You can give it to them later, or even go back to it yourself.
P.S. If you have words of wisdom that you would like to share, either your own advice to someone or the best piece of advice you ever received, I would love to hear them - just reply to this email.
