Thoughts of the day
A different way of capturing reality, and in some ways simultaneously creating a distance from it, is drawing. The New York Times asked 17 artists who are in self-isolation in New York to capture what they see from their windows.
I have included some of my favourite images below, which capture not just the oddness of this period, but also how differently we are all interpreting and experiencing it.
“It’s as if I’m in a place that looks like New York, but I don’t recognize it at all.”
—Katherine Lam
“Everything feels ghostly, and every movement through the neighborhood seems unique and important.”
—Patrick Edell
“For three weeks, I have not seen anything move.”
—Yuko Shimizu
“Looking out the window feels like we’re at a human zoo watching the wild outdoors from the safety of our couch.”
—Christopher Silas Neal
