Thoughts of the day
A narrow field of vision can be damaging to those who need external stimuli for pleasure, satisfaction or inspiration. Not seeing beyond the walls of our house could reduce the broadness of one’s thinking, but what if it could also present an opportunity? How many different ways are there to look at an item? How many stories are there to tell about each item?
“There are painters who transform the sun to a yellow spot, but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence, transform a yellow spot into sun”
― Pablo Picasso
One of the comforts of looking at still life is its very stillness, but also the fact that it takes something mundane, often overlooked, and turns it into something worth looking at. Picasso often painted still life, saying “I paint objects as I think them, not as I see them.”
Once we start thinking about the objects that surround us, we stop merely looking at them and start seeing them, their value changing, their story coming to life.
