Thoughts of the day
Friday, and every day, should be a day with room in it for listening to music. One of our greatest instincts (and gifts) as mankind, music can offer the comfort of another human voice, a memory, or a fantasy. We sing to ourselves in the shower, we sing to each other, we sing along to songs we love.
It connects us through taste, it is used to celebrate moments of happiness, to improve a sad mood, or to simply reflect it. If someone else felt such sadness then, by comparison, ours should be bearable.
Henry David Thoreau, a man who spent much of his time in isolation, having only nature as his company, touched upon music’s value and powerfulness:
“When I hear music, I fear no danger. I am invulnerable. I see no foe. I am related to the earliest times, and to the latest.”
Take some time to listen to music today, and don’t forget to share it with someone else.
