The Blue Marble, a photo taken by the crew of Apollo 17 in 1972, is one of the most famous photos of Earth from space. The name of the photo is telling. In the grander scheme of things, we are just a marble orbiting in an expanding universe.

It is tempting in times of crisis and impending danger to act selfishly, and for our own survival. But, looking at things from such a distance is the best reminder that we are all, literally, in this together.
