With nothing to look forward to, with the future put on hold, and without the ability to go out, we have paradoxically been given the rare opportunity to look backward and inward.
Fernando Pessoa, in The Book of Disquiet, wrote:
“My past is everything I failed to be.”
I often refer to Stoicism as a means of dealing with the situation unraveling in the world, but when it comes to personal responsibility, Existentialism can push us forward in using this time to reunite with our lost selves. If there is something you ever wanted to be, or wanted to learn, there has perhaps never been a better time than now, with no temptations and no distractions, to achieve it.
