Daily Brain Food.
Thoughts of the day
Every day, in many forms, we interact with others. We give and receive services, kindness, criticism, lessons, opportunities. This transactional nature of life, however, can tend to appear one-sided.
Writing can often be a lonely task, even more so when it is done in the form of letters. Social media thrives on interactions; email, the modern version of sending letters, is a monologue. Sometimes, I receive a message of gratitude or praise from someone reading Brain Food, and it propels me to write a hundred emails more.
Acting in solitude does not mean acting alone, and life is never lived in a vacuum. The mere notion of interacting with others and communicating our thoughts is one of the biggest parts of being human. This also includes singing someone’s praises.
Today, take the time to send a message to someone, and do not expect anything back.
“The proper definition of a man is an animal that writes letters.”
— Lewis Carroll
Letter from Johnny Cash to his wife, June:
Hey June,
That’s really nice June. You’ve got a way with words and a way with me as well.
The fire and excitement may be gone now that we don’t go out there and sing them anymore, but the ring of fire still burns around you and I, keeping our love hotter than a pepper sprout.
Love John
