Thoughts of the day
Looking back at who you were a decade ago, how much has changed? Physically, mentally, emotionally?
Are we still the same person we were at the beginning of 2010? Do we remember what we desired ten years ago, or what we worried about? Did everything we desire take place? Did everything we fear happen?
The real question is, does it matter? If fears and desires have been fulfilled, forgotten or subsequently diminished by time, their true purpose may have been to propel us in a specific direction, bringing us where we are today. What remains of them is who we are at this very moment.
Aldous Huxley wrote:
“I wanted to change the world. But I have found that the only thing one can be sure of changing is oneself.”
Inevitably, we all change, perhaps more than we would have liked. We cannot control where we will be tomorrow, or ten years from now. The only thing we can control is who shows up to the party.
