Thoughts of the day
Being present and mindful, despite having entered the limelight in recent years, has always been one of mankind’s greatest challenges. Monks have historically been the experts in removing distractions from their day-to-day, from technology to sex, in an attempt to be at peace with themselves and their inner workings.
In a world built around feeding an incessant hunger for attention, it is no wonder, then, that our mind is tricked into wandering. But this is how another similar act, one we often subconsciously and naturally perform, could serve to counteract not only the temptations of life, but also its demands. One that lies between reality and wakefulness, that the cynical among us try to dismiss.
"I suspect that dreams are an integral part of existence, with far more use for us than we've made of them... The fine line between the dream state and reality is at times, for me, quite grey."
From David Bowie, who would have turned 73 today.
